Different types of sports bets

This is a picture for the different types of sports bets article

There are many different ways to gamble on a game, which is one of the best things about sports betting. You can wager on a variety of things, such as which side will win the game or the margin of victory or total points scored. In this article, I will go through the different types of sports bets and the most well-known types of bets.

If you want more information about betting, check out our sports betting page and find an amazing variety of the best odds.

Money Line Bet

The most straightforward and popular type of wager is the money line bet. This bet just covers who you think will win the game. For instance, if you wager on the Boston Celtics’ Money line you think they will win the game. Your bet will win if the Celtics triumph. Your wager is lost if the Celtics lose.

Point Spread

A point spread bet is another very popular sort of wager. When you place a bet on the spread, you wager on a team’s margin of victory rather than the outcome. This bet is essentially giving a team a certain handicap.

A minus sign indicates a favourite, and a plus sign indicates an underdog. For instance, a team must win by more than 4 points if it is priced at -4. The opposition team would then be given a price of +4, which would require them to either win the game handily or suffer a loss of fewer than 4 points.

Over/Under (Points Total)

Point total bets are also very common bets, aside from money line and spread wagers.

With a total bet, you are placing a wager on the total points earned by both sides. The point total, for instance, in a hockey match between the Boston Bruins and New York Rangers is fixed at 10.

There were only 7 total points collected if the final score was Bruins 3, Rangers 4. As a result, the winning bet is the under.

Parlay Bets

Parlay Bets may also be known as “accumulators” or “multis,” depending on the sportsbook or the area. They are one of the most popular betting types in the world and one of my favourites.

A parlay is an appealing option for many bettors since it allows you to place a small wager and win a potentially large sum because your winnings are multiplied after each victory. For instance, if you place a $20 wager on a six-leg parlay that consists of:

  • Brooklyn Nets Moneyline (+110)
  • L.A. Clippers Moneyline ( -204)
  • Chicago Bulls Moneyline (-345)
  • New Orleans Pelicans Moneyline (-250)
  • Utah Jazz Moneyline (-213)
  • Blazers Moneyline  (-233)

If all six of those wagers are successful, you would win $237.60.

However, you need to keep in mind that if even one of those wagers loses you will lose the entire parlay bet.

Live Betting

A wager that is placed after a game has begun is known as a live bet. The fact that the odds change based on what is happening in the game is what makes live betting entertaining.

You can live bet on more specialized bets like the outcome of the next possession in addition to more conventional bets like money lines, spreads, and totals.

Futures Bets

A betting on the potential result of a sporting event is known as a futures bet. This can refer to a team’s overall winning percentage, winning a league championship, or receiving an MVP award.

Futures bets can also be wagers on individual players, such as the number of points a player scores on an average per game or the number of yards a quarterback will pass for during a certain season.
